If you're still relying on word-of-mouth to grow your business, you're leaving money on the table. At ChannelCon 2025, Heather Margolis, CEO of Channel Maven, delivered a powerhouse session on how to turn digital engagement into real revenue. Here's your step-by-step guide to creating a marketing engine that attracts, nurtures and converts—without creeping out your audience.

1. Create Sexy, Searchable Content

Your content needs to be both irresistible and discoverable. That means optimizing for:

  • - SEO (Search Engine Optimization): Think like your audience. If they’re searching “women’s shoes for a conference,” your blog better show up.
  • - AEO (Answer Engine Optimization): Write conversationally. “I’m speaking at Opryland in Nashville—what shoes should I wear?”
  • - GEO: Geo-target your content. “Hey Nashville, here’s what’s trending for speakers this fall.”
  •

“Everything needs to touch each other and be talking about the same thing to get ground swell,” Margolis said.

Action Steps:Heather Margolis (1)

  • - Use ChatGPT (or the AI agent of your choice) to draft content that reflects your voice.
  • - Optimize with an SEO tool like SEMrush for SEO, AEO and/or GEO.
  • - Add standout visuals with an AI-powered visual generation tool.
  • - Promote via an AI-powered content marketing assistant to create social posts.
  • - Tie it all together in an email campaign to your current list.
  •

2. Show and Tell: Without Being Creepy

People are drowning in content. If you want attention, be entertaining and informative. “Every single one of us is bombarded with info,” Margolis said. “If you want us to do anything about it you need to be more interesting.”

Action Steps:

  • - Turn white papers into videos using Canva, Descript, Synthesia or Pictory.
  • - Use digital avatars (if appropriate) with HeyGen, JoggAI or Descript.
  • - Keep it human—know your audience and avoid being robotic.
  •

3. Follow Through Like a Pro

Leads are only valuable if you act on them. Don’t let them go stale.

Action Steps:

  • - Connect on LinkedIn and start a nurture flow.
  • - Use AI-powered tools like Lavender, Apollo, HubSpot AI or Customer.io to personalize outreach.
  • - Build LinkedIn cadences with Channel Maven Flock, Hummingbird or Dripify.
  • - Remember: It’s 70% easier to sell to an existing customer than a net new one.
  •

4. Get Personal—Really Personal

Generic outreach is dead. Personalization is the new currency. “Tailor your message with what you have in common,” Margolis said.

Action Steps:

  • - Build lists in LinkedIn Sales Navigator based on shared interests.
  • - Avoid lazy intros like “Dear valued prospect.”
  • - Segment and tailor messages using tools like 6sense, Demandbase, Mutiny and Clay.
  •

5. Get Feedback and Iterate

If you’re not analyzing your performance, you’re flying blind.

Action Steps:

  • - Use analytics tools to track engagement.
  • - Let AI interpret the data—what’s working, what’s not.
  • - Tools like 6sense, Demandbase, Mutiny and Clay can help you understand buyer intent.
  • - Feed insights into the AI agent of you choice to refine your strategy.
  •

Predictable growth isn’t magic—it’s methodical. By aligning your content, outreach and analytics, you create a marketing ecosystem that works while you sleep. Start with one step and build from there. Your future pipeline will thank you.
