Grants: Frequently Asked Questions

Through the GTIA Foundation, we invest in nonprofits and schools that use technology to expand access, drive equity and create opportunity. Below are answers to the most common questions about our grants.

We believe our impact should extend beyond the IT channel. By supporting nonprofits and schools that use technology to expand access, drive equity and create opportunity, we’re helping build a more inclusive and connected future. Giving back is core to our mission—and it’s one more way we bring our values to life. We seek to partner with nonprofit organizations and schools to make sure technology is a force for good.

For an organization to receive a charitable contribution from GTIA, the recipient’s charitable purpose or program(s) must be:

  • Seeking to use technology to enhance educational opportunities and outcomes;
  • Using technology to bridge the digital divide;
  • Creating workforce opportunities for underserved audiences through the use of technology;
  • Advancing technological innovation in a way that creates more opportunities for individuals or communities to prosper; or
  • Otherwise determined consistent with the values, mission and goals of GTIA by the Committee or designees with authority in accordance with this policy.

All applications receive an initial review to confirm eligibility. Eligible applications then move forward to GTIA’s Charitable Committee, which includes member leaders. The committee evaluates proposals based on alignment with GTIA’s giving priorities, clarity of mission, potential for impact and innovative use of technology as a catalyst for change. Final approval of grantees rests with the GTIA Board of Directors. This process ensures diligence, fairness and strong governance in the selection of grantees.

In 2026, we have committed to $5 million in charitable giving, with more than $2 million available through the grant application process in the current round of funding (applications are currently closed). In 2025, we awarded $600,000 through our grantmaking program, as part of our $1.5 million total charitable giving commitment for the year. Grants are anticipated in the $25,000–$50,000 range, with the potential for larger-scale grants depending on the applications received.

Applications for the current funding cycle are open through October 2, 2025.

Yes! International applicants from countries outside the United States are welcome, provided they meet the eligibility requirements.

No. Thanks to GTIA’s substantial endowment, we’re in the enviable position of not needing to fundraise. All of our giving programs are funded directly by GTIA through the proceeds of our endowment. This allows us to stay focused on awareness and impact—getting resources into the hands of nonprofits and schools that are driving meaningful change—rather than on donations.

GTIA members play a powerful role in shaping impact. The most recent grant opportunity was limited to organizations and schools who had a member referral.

Spread the word! If members know a nonprofit using technology to improve lives, encourage them to apply during a future open application period. Member referrals make a real difference.

For the grantmaking program which awards funding through an application process, there are currently no limitations. There is no restriction that prevents a nonprofit from applying if they previously received a donation from GTIA. Each application is reviewed on its own merits. Prior funding may be noted but does not automatically affect eligibility. However, the member-directed giving program does not allow for an award in consecutive years to the same organization.

At this time, GTIA grants are one-time awards. Organizations are welcome to reapply in future cycles, provided they meet the eligibility criteria (including having a member referral, when required). Multi-year grants may be considered as the program evolves.

The first 2026 application cycle, which required a member referral, closed May 1, 2026. The second 2026 member referral application cycle is open September 1 - October 2, 2026.

Beyond this grantmaking program, GTIA also supports:

  • Member-Directed Giving: Each year, GTIA members nominate and vote for nonprofits creating tech-driven change around the world. From advisory councils to regional groups, our members help shape the impact of our global giving.
  • Volunteerism: Our hands-on service events reflect GTIA’s commitment to community engagement and leaving a lasting impact in the cities where we gather. Activities range from prepping meals and care kits to cleanup efforts.
